Keolis Boston and Comply365 Further Modernize MBTA Commuter Rail With New Digital Tools

Comply365 to digitize train crew materials for easy access and to eliminate cumbersome paper manuals that must be on-hand; MBTA Commuter Rail first of its type to adopt this safety modernization in U.S.

Beloit, WI – Jan. 26, 2021 – Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), operating partner for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) Commuter Rail network, has partnered with cloud-hosted software provider Comply365 to adopt an innovative content management system and mobile application for train crews and other operational personnel. These platforms will further digitize Commuter Rail operations, enhance safety and compliance, and provide new efficiencies, including eliminating the need for train crews to carry large paper manuals.

“We warmly welcome Keolis and their crews across the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Commuter Rail to the Comply365 rail division community,” Comply365 CEO Tom Samuel said. “We are honored they have chosen to partner with us in their transformation to a digital operation, allowing them to enhance the delivery of safe, reliable, and consistent rail services.”

Comply365 is an industry leader in providing operators a user-friendly mobile solution to access the mission-critical information they need at their fingertips, with the ability to quickly search and filter, bookmark, and annotate important documents.

With funding from the MBTA, Comply365’s platform will support Keolis’ digital transformation to electronic content delivery using tablets. The move digitizes rulebooks, bulletins, special instructions, and other operational documents that more than 1,000 train conductors, locomotive engineers, track workers, and other operational personnel are required to carry when operating on the Commuter Rail network. Keolis and the MBTA will be able to more easily verify that important updates to rules and operating procedures have been read and understood by the relevant front-line employees, further enhancing compliance and safety.

“We’ve introduced a number of digital innovations since 2014 in partnership with the MBTA, such as the ability to accept credit cards onboard trains and biometric timeclocks,” said David Scorey, Keolis CEO and General Manager. “This platform will make critical safety and compliance information even more accessible and easier to reference for our operational personnel. Further, updates to these materials will be much easier to administer.”

Certain employees, such as train conductors and engineers, are required to carry and reference rulebooks and other documentation when operating on the railroad. Keolis’ adoption of the Compy365 platform makes MBTA Commuter Rail the first U.S. commuter network to introduce this innovation and digitize its federally-mandated documentation. Similar innovations were introduced in the airline industry when the FAA approved replacing paper manuals with electronic flight bags.

Comply365, whose customers include many of the major airlines around the globe, is leading a similar transformation in the railway industry after investments to enhance its solution for rail users. In addition to Keolis and the MBTA Commuter Rail, Comply365’s rail division has grown to include Canadian National, Amtrak and Norfolk Southern.

“Our depth of experience in transforming the complex aviation industry in similar ways prove our expertise and solutions are leading a pivotal aspect of the rail industry’s digital transformation to shed paper-based documentation,” Samuel said. “It’s exciting to partner with leaders in both rail and aviation organizations who value our vision. There is a lot to be gained by both industries as we collaborate together on their mutual challenges to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant digital operations.”

Comply365 Client ABX Air Adds ProAuthor To Deliver Smart, Interconnected Manuals To Crews

ABX Air Services

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1659629085329{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

Comply365’s End-to-End Authoring Platform to Boost Manual Revision Process

Beloit, WI, USA – Aug. 18, 2020 – Aviation software leader Comply365 is happy to announce its existing client ABX Air will soon leverage the power of structured authoring for its manuals to enable the growing carrier to always be audit ready and easily scale its authoring process while publishing cross-referenced, tail-specific maintenance and flight operations manuals.

ABX AirABX Air, a subsidiary cargo airline of Air Transport Services Group, Inc., recently added ProAuthor and Forms365. ProAuthor is Comply365’s end-to-end operational content and compliance management system that enables faster, more routine manual revisions while enabling the airline to always be audit ready by running reports of standards mapped during the authoring phase.

“We’ve had a great experience working with Comply365 to distribute important content to our Flight Operations team, making them an innovative partner to turn to as we advance in our digital strategy to support our airline’s growth,” said John Maloney, Vice President of Flight Operations. “We’re excited to upgrade to a more robust solution that will provide efficiencies for our Technical Publications team, as well as deliver smart data to our crews, enhancing safety by making it easier and faster for them to find exactly what they need.”

The Ohio-based airline expects a 30-percent reduction in total end-to-end publication time, while also reducing the lead time to get new procedures to pilots, loadmasters, mechanics, and ground crews. Current manuals are published in PDF and provide no interconnectivity, forcing users to search each one individually for information. Using ProAuthor, their new manuals will allow cross-referencing with other manuals for the first time, eliminating confusion and decreasing the chance of errors.

The cargo airline has responded quickly to the global pandemic, helping to maintain the flow of vital supplies and increased e-commerce shopping under very challenging conditions. ProAuthor will allow the carrier to scale – authoring 30 to 50 percent more publications – while maintaining its existing team thanks to automated workflows.

ABX Air has been leveraging the power of Comply365’s mobile app with Document & Communication Manager (DCM) since early 2018 to provide its flight crews immediate access to manuals and important memos needed on their mobile iOS devices.

“It’s been wonderful working with ABX Air, and it is an honor that they have chosen to expand that relationship with the addition of ProAuthor for the next stage of their transformation,” Comply365 CEO Tom Samuel said. “Amid this challenging time for the aviation industry, it’s important to recognize the tremendous benefits ABX will realize by investing in a solution that will provide higher-value content to their users to enhance safety, compliance, and efficiency.”

Comply365’S ProAuthor To Deliver Smart Manuals To Canadian North Flight Crews

Canadian North

Ottawa-Based Airline Gains a Single System for Authoring and Compliance Management

Beloit, WI, USA – March 5, 2020 – Aviation software leader Comply365 is pleased to welcome Canadian North to its customer base with a multiyear contract that will transform the operational information flight crew members must access into “smart manuals” and improve the airline’s compliance management system.

Canadian NorthComply365’s ProAuthor, an end-to-end operational content and compliance management system, will replace multiple disparate systems at the Ottawa, Canada-based airline while delivering more personalized and relevant content to their pilots, flight attendants, and maintenance technicians.

“We needed to establish consistency across our operational manuals, and we wanted a single system to manage and deliver our operational content as well as track end-user compliance,” Canadian North President & CEO Chris Avery said. “Comply365 is used widely across Canada and the United States, and the great feedback we’ve heard from other airlines helped solidify our choice in this trusted brand.”

Canadian North, which recently merged with First Air, provides passenger service across 25 destinations within the Northwest Territories, Nunavik and Nunavut, from its southern gateways of Ottawa, Montreal, and Edmonton. It is also the premier charter service provider and delivers essential goods across very remote areas of northern Canada.

Using ProAuthor, more than 400 employees in the Flight Operations, Inflight and Maintenance departments at Canadian North now will receive smart manuals on their tablets that reduce the data required to download updates, which was especially important because of the limited connectivity in the remote areas the airline serves.

“We warmly welcome Canadian North and look forward to providing them with a solution to boost their end-user compliance while replacing multiple systems to efficiently manage complex processes in a single documentation system that works across the airline,” Comply365 CEO Tom Samuel said. “Canadian North now has the power to deliver more personalized information to flight crews so they can safely and more efficiently travel to places that are essentially off the grid.”
